How to Get Your Broker to Shower You with Favor

gwEver get the feeling that your broker may go out of her or his way for other agents in your office? How about when you have a legal issue pop up and you never get a return phone call or support, leaving you to call the broker of another company or your attorney? If you’ve ever experienced the cold shoulder or being ignored by your broker, you CAN turn it around quickly. As a qualifying real estate broker for many years, and currently as a business coach, I can share a few action items that will grab the attention of your broker and make him or her FALL IN LOVE with you.

Try these action items to get real favor from your favorite broker:

1. Show up for important meetings or trainings when you can. No. You can’t attend everything. But, your broker puts time and effort into providing certain meetings. Be sure to put the most important ones on your calendar. You may not be able to stay the whole time, but you’ll definitely be noticed and appreciated.
2. Recruit your favorite co-op agents to your company. When you meet an agent that you think will be a good fit for your company and or broker, let the agent know that you’ll be telling your broker to call him or her. Then, let your broker know and pass along all contact information.
3. Stay positive when making suggestions for any changes or tools.
4. Sell a lot! You’ll gain the most favor by being one of the top producers of the company, especially if you’re a heavy lister. The more market share you can help your broker obtain, the more favor you will earn.
5. Stop asking for special deals every month. Brokers can lose their patients with even the highest of producers who continue to ask for special “deals.” If you feel like you deserve a higher commission split, get all your facts and figures ready to discuss right before your annual renewal. It may not change anything for you financially, but you at least are handling it professionally.
6. Support the office and your colleagues as much as you possibly can.
7. Turn your paperwork in to the office on time without complaining. No one likes paperwork; especially a real estate agent. But, the task becomes even more daunting on staff members who have to hunt you down in order to collect legally required documents. So, put a system in place that will allow you to get it in on time.

These may seem like common sense tips because really, they are. But, I promise if you follow them, you’ll receive more favor from your broker.
