As our Get a Real Estate Life team has been planning out the right mixture of tools, techniques, education, inspiration, motivation, and accountability that will make our agents highly successful in 2014, I have replayed every transformation story in my head. Each one is so special, each person unique. But, the stories all have the same or similar pattern. Lucky for all of us, if total transformation follows a pattern, we can easily duplicate it. Here are the steps I’ve personally witnessed in the behavior and in the lives of some pretty amazing people who CHANGED their Real Estate world:
- Anger fuels the change. When you get angry, you demand a change. In fact, the agents who have made the biggest changes got the maddest at themselves, their real estate situations, their businesses. They each got so angry they made the decision to NO LONGER TOLERATE another day running their real estate business in its current condition. The pain and fear became so unbearable that it churned into pure ANGER. And, this is when I get excited. When an agent goes on an emotional rant of being sick and tired of working so many hours with people who don’t appreciate him or her and never closing anything, I start smiling. This is where the magic starts in the agents’ lives. This is where one agent fueled his transformation from $129,000 to $340,000. Where another borrowed money from his Dad, one of his darkest days, and turned his business in the same year into the best he’s ever accomplished. He took anger to achieve these results. PEOPLE WHO ARE COMFORTABLE DON’T DO AMAZING THINGS. Yes, they’re still great people and bless many lives. But, the ones who get Angry, change the world for the better.
- Anger puts people in emergency ACTION. When people start lead digging with a sense of emergency, BIG changes happen quickly; almost over night. And, if the anger continues to burn, the sense of emergency continues to dominate, then action continues. What follows massive amounts of action? CLOSINGS
- Results spur on even more activity. After massive action and fast results, agents are inspired to continue because they are so proud of themselves for doing something; anything, consistently. As self-confidence rises, results increase, income increases. It is no longer about the pain.
- The challenge then becomes “how much can I push myself to do”? At this point, an agent’s entire mindset changes. He is now seeking to do more, be better, and help as many people as possible. He’s realized his value and has learned there is no shortage of business. It’s simply a challenge to see how many buyers and sellers she can reasonably help without compromising service.
- All aspects of an agent’s life follows suit. Real Estate may be the first transformation, but what is joyful to watch, is the other amazing changes. Weight is normally lost, people become healthier. One agent recently ran an 8K. It was never her goal, she had previously doubled her business, maintained it, joined a gym, lost a lot of weight and thought, ok, “Let’s run a race.” Neglected home repairs get completed. Financial worlds get cleaned up and savings accounts get rebuilt. Personal goals, wishes, and dreams get fulfilled. All because someone got ANGRY!
